Essential WordPress Post Management: Create, Categorize, Link, and Delete

For any modern WordPress site, mastering the basics of content creation and management is crucial for maintaining an organized blog and maximizing your search engine optimization (SEO) performance.

This guide provides a step-by-step tutorial on the fundamental tasks within your WordPress admin center: creating a new post, assigning categories for organization, creating custom-text links, and efficiently removing content.

Step 1: Creating a New WordPress Post

Every piece of content starts by navigating to the post creation interface.

  1. Access Admin: Log into your WordPress administrative dashboard using your website’s /wp-admin URL [00:19].
  2. Add New: From the left-hand menu, navigate to Posts and click Add new post [00:26].
  3. Write Content: Paste or write your article content directly into the editor [00:35].

Step 2: Categorizing Your Content

Proper categorization ensures your content is organized and appears in the correct section of your website (e.g., under a custom menu link).

  • Locate Category Settings: Once your article is written, look for the Post settings panel (usually on the right side of the editor).
  • Select Category: Scroll down to find the Categories section and select the appropriate category or multiple categories for your post (e.g., “Mummy Mart” and “Deals” categories) [00:52].

Step 3: Inserting Custom-Text Links (Anchor Text)

Using custom text for links, often called anchor text, is vital for SEO and user experience, as it clearly communicates the link’s destination.

  1. Select Text: Highlight the specific text you want to convert into a hyperlink (e.g., “Facebook deals”) [01:19].
  2. Insert Link: Click the Link icon in the editor toolbar.
  3. Paste URL: Paste the desired destination URL (e.g., a link to a specific Facebook post) into the field.
  4. Save: Click Save to apply the custom anchor text link [02:08]. This technique is far better than simply displaying the raw URL.

Step 4: Publishing and Deleting Posts

Once your content is finalized, categorized, and linked, you are ready to publish.

Publishing the Post

  1. Review: Double-check all settings, including categories and links.
  2. Publish: Click the Publish button to make the article live on your website [02:33].
  3. Verify: After publishing, check the live website under the assigned categories (e.g., “Deals” or “Mummy Mart”) to ensure the post appears correctly [04:20].

Removing an Existing Post

If you need to remove old or irrelevant content:

  1. Go to All Posts: In your admin dashboard, navigate to Posts > All Posts.
  2. Select Post: Check the box next to the post you wish to remove.
  3. Move to Trash: Select Move to Trash from the bulk actions dropdown menu.
  4. Apply: Click Apply to remove the post from your live website [03:55].

By consistently applying these steps, you maintain a clean, high-quality, and structurally sound WordPress site that benefits both your users and your SEO rankings.
